What you think is out there…
I just read a phenomenal post by Jennifer over at Conversion Diary entitled, “WHAT YOU THINK IS OUT THERE, AIN’T OUT THERE“. Hop on over there to read it for full effect.
The bottom line, she said, is,
You will find, my friend, that the only possible way to find deep fulfillment and satisfaction in life is to make love your number one priority: center your entire life around loving others, loving He who is Love itself, and your soul will rejoice in the glory of finally finding its true purpose. Anything else is a distraction. Whether it’s a hot job or a good day at the casino or a decadent meal or a nice car or a huge house, it will bring you only fragile, fleeting joy. Chasing after the comforts and pleasures of this world will lead only to frustration and emptiness. It is only by picking up your cross and seeking to follow the One who originally blazed the trail of a life of self-emptying love that the thirst from deep in your soul will finally be quenched.
I read this post as I was eating lunch. I was already mulling over, in my mind, the contents of my pantry, refrigerator, and freezer, searching for something to appease my appetite even though I’d just had most of a hamburger, french fries, and was sipping the last half of my lemonade.
Neither a delicacy when I am not hungry, NOR a thin body will truly bring me the quenched thirst of my soul. The pursuit of either, without Him who created me, will be meaningless.
I’m in a sort of slow place right now. I have spent a lot of time in pursuit of something. Anything. Doing this 60-60 Experiment has me in a “Stop. Look. Listen” mode. I have a few smatterings of friends who are participating and looking for discussion. Maybe that’s the way it’s supposed to be – instead of some huge “program”. Just more casual yet meaningful discussions with a single friend here and there. I’ll take them wherever I can find them…
